Virtual Dream Box

Local high school students recording their dreams for the neighborhood at the Potrero Hill Festival

This page is our virtual “Dream Box,” where we invite you to enter your hopes and dreams for our neighborhood. Your dreams can be as small as wanting a park bench in a specific location or as big as hoping for a unified, harmonious community.

We’ve also made some physical Dream Boxes. They are a kind of suggestion box where Potrero Hill residents can submit their dreams for the neighborhood. Some of the boxes made their debut at theĀ Potrero Hill Festival, and others will be in cafes, schools, laundromats, and apartment buildings around the neighborhood. Look for one in your area, and think about suggestions and dreams you’d like to share. We look forward to reading about your hopes and dreams for the neighborhood!

In addition to submitting your dreams in our physical boxes, we invite you to enter them here, as comments added to this page under Leave a Reply.

As of April 2011, we have Dream Boxes in these locations:

  • Potrero Library
  • Starr King School
  • Good Life Grocery
  • Farley’s
  • Thinker’s
  • Resource Center
  • Sierra Heights condos

I dream of a “Potrero Public Square” where all neighbors could meet each other informally, have coffee or dessert, and maybe enjoy street art or live music. In my dream, this space has teens and older folks, singles and families, all mingling in a safe, well-lit, comfortable space with benches, a fountain, and flowers. On the edges of the square are a few small eateries with outdoor seating, and other small retail shops, perhaps also a library or newsstand. The square would be available for weddings, performances, and presentations of all kinds, and be managed by a small group of neighborhood volunteers.

I look forward to the days of change. I dream of the parks being ful of laughing children and the parks ful of laughing adults of all colors and financial status. I dream of people stopping and talking to one another on the streets. I dream of people waving as they drive by and you know what it is starting to happen even though it is going slow it is going. It makes it really worth getting up in the morning knowing that I am a part and that I am making a difference in a positive way.

    • I love your dream, Uzuri! And you’re right, it’s starting to happen already. I love that being part of this group has helped me get to know many neighbors, so that now I feel more a part of this community.
